Very bad way to begin Thanksgiving break... Striker suddenly passed tonight... he was fine all day, ate dinner like normal... I get in the shower and quenten comes to get me, by the time I got out there he was gone... why are we having this horrible luck... I am taking this as God's way of saying we are a one dog family, which is incredibly sad...

OH, I am so so sorry.
Give the kids a great big hug.

Oh, I am so very very sorry. it is hard enough when it is anticipated, but to be sudden unprepared for is simply heartwrenching. Seek comfort in family on this holiday, and remember all the good times! Again, so truly sorry for your loss. Thinking of you guys today.

So sorry to hear this news .

My mother died on memorial day and my brother the day after Labor day.  My last GSP  died 2 hours after I got home from my cancer surgery two days befor July 4.I know the feeling of  asking " Why this  not so great timming"    Maybe its Strikers way for saying "thank you" to the family  for  all time.

Marcia - I saw this last night on FB and had to read it a couple of times before I could believe it. I am so truly sorry, but God works in mysterious ways that we sometimes don't understand. Your family is a wonderful home for GSPs with the kids, horses, farm, all the trips. I know if I were a shorthair I would be absolutely over the moon to live with you guys. You are the perfect home for a shorthair. I know Phyllis thought that too when she sent Striker your way. Don't give up on owning two or even more dogs. There have been times in my life when I thought I never wanted to own another dog, but they give so much and make a family complete. I know today if you were given a choice of having Donner and Striker even with the knowledge that they would be with you for only a very short time you would still make the same choice. Give it some time for the hurt to ease a bit. You may find you change your mind again. God bless you all, and give thanks this Thanksgiving Day for the wonderful family you are, and the gift that God gave you of Donner and Striker.

I am so incredibly sorry for what has happened......such a shock.  I think that maybe Striker was destined to be a part of your family because he would receive a full lifetime worth of fun and love in the short time he was with you all! It's so incredibly difficult to lose one of these wee souls, especially so suddenly - but it sounds like he had the perfect life for a gsp! Your ayrshire buddies are thinking of you all x

How very, very sad.   I feel so sorry for you and your family.  I know I would just be devestated.

Like Bev said, don't give up on having more than one dog . . . Striker was lucky to have you as a family for the time he was here.  We almost always tend to out live our dogs.  It is just part of having them in our lives.

Thinking of you and your husband, as well as the boys.

Roz.

I am so sorry too, we all suffered with you over dear Donner, and now Striker!  I lost my Jasper suddenly--fine in the morning, dead when I came home from work--so I know how numb and disbelieving you feel.  Just remember that Striker had a wonderful life and think about offering that to another GSP soon.

I deeply Treasure the time I spent with all the Shorthair loving people at the GSPCA 2011 National Specialty  at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The best part for me was to meet the people on this forum with their beloved Shorthairs...  Marcia , Blitz and Striker I will always treasure deeply the fun time we experienced being Newbies at this event. Striker will always live in my heart. Too soon, too young to pass. You are deeply in my prayers. RIP Striker.
