I had to put my English Springer on lamb and rice formula food. (He has skin problems). I chose Nutro lamb&rice

Do you think it's ok to feed this food to Binni (my GSP) also?  I hate to buy two different kinds of foods. I'm just not sure what to do. There are so many dog foods to choose from. She did horrible on Blue Buffalo and has been on Iam's for 6 months now. And the more I look into Iam's, the less I think I want her on that!

I'm so confused and don't know what to do. Please please please all comments are welcome.

Lamb and rice is good and it is easy to digest. I had a similar problem with Belle who is allergic to beef. I found a good chicken based dog food nd switched all of mine to it.

Thanks Bev.  I appreciate your reply. I just want to do the right thing for Binni Bell.  Way too many food choices out there.  Binni is my first gsp. Still learning :)

We are thinking of switching Bella's food as well. The bumps on her head and nose have stopped so I think that was more an outdoor Summer allergen. But, now I have noticed that her tummy skin seems to be slightly more pink than usual. She's not itchy..and I may just be imagining things. But, I think she is definitely prone to allergies. Keep posted on how Binni does on this new food. We haven't picked which to switch to yet.

I will defiantly keep you posted. I researched what seemed to be a million different foods and called a few different dog food companies and spoke to several different reps this past week. Nutro looked the best on paper. Now I will have to wait and see how my doggies do on it. I will be mixing the lamb and rice in with the Iams for six days

The vet keeps putting my springer Niko on prednisone and I'm just not comfortable with that.

It will be great if Binni likes this food and hopefully it helps Niko's skin clear up.  Awwwwe the simple pleasures :)

keeping my fingers crossed.

Just as an FYI there are a lot of limited ingredient formulas now. If you are struggling to isolate the exact allergen I would go with one of those.
Some are pretty darn good foods and have a higher protein level than most lamb formulas.
I especially think that GSP's run better on a higher protein food

We feed Rudy Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice Shredded and he loves it. As a puppy we fed Science Diet, but when we tried to switch him over to Adult Science Diet, he wouldn't eat it. We have been feeding Pro Plan ever since. He hasn't complained once.

I have off and on fed Exceed Lamb and Rice from Sam's Club...I feed it for months at a time, then decide I want to go elsewhere and eventually come back to it. Have been doing this for 20 years now and dogs are doing just fine. They just had a price increase to $35 for 44 pounds, but it is made in the same plant as Purina in MO, and has decent ingredients. No skin issues. Its 26-15 for Protein-Fat ratio.
