Bella played with a German Shepherd today at the dog park who responds to German commands. It was so cool. I'm jealous for not thinking of training Bella this way (though it would make it harder to encourage people, especially strangers, to also give her commands lol).
Anyone here train their commands in German? |

| No, I use commands that come me easily. My release command is play. Most people use ok, free or something along those lines. For me the word play made sense. There was one guy in my obedience class that used French commands. |

We call water "agua" for Bo and have done since he was a puppy. No reason ... "og-wa for the dog-wa" just had a nice ring I guess |

| Polish, that's neat too Pixie. My husband's family is Polish but neither of us know a lick with the exception of a few words. Our commands are also things that came naturally, but watching that dog respond to the German commands was just neat lol. |

we speak to our Luna mostly in English, but I also speak to her in Czech also... she responds well to commands in both languages, but with incorporating gestures it's hard to know if it's the language or more of it all put together. |

I thought there was a Polish connection when I saw your user name. |

Being born, and raised near Chicago, I can barely speak English, let alone a totally different language. In the field I babble at Sadie incomprehensibly most times (reference Videos I have posted in the past) |

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd |

Hey, if babble works...it works I have a whole slew of annoying "correction" noises that work famously. And, yes, a very Polish name. I particularly like how my original last name was one fourth the length, and now I must pronounce and spell my last name numerous times a day to others. |

| Dogs are smart and will pick up anything. I have 4 shorthairs that I train and I mess up names often and sometimes even commands, but mine always know what I mean. I play a game with my dogs where I set them all in a sit stay and will sat their name and a command. The only one that can respond is the one that I call out. At first they all tried to do the command, but now they know the game. I also play word games with them where I set them up for a command and say another word. At first I use words that are totally different than the command and one they are understanding the game I mix in words that are very close sounding to the command. If they break on the wrong word I win. If they do it right they get a jackpot of treats. This teaches them to really listen and focus on what I am asking them to do. You can only do this though after they understand the command. If you try it before they understand a command you will just confuse the dog. |

| Texasbelle I can just picture your crew of four in their sits listening so attentively for their turn. I have to do similar tasks with Bella when she is having her moments where she is aiming to please but without listening to what is really being asked. I don't let her get away with what I call her "go to tricks" when she knows someone is asking something of her but isn't fully listening to what it is. Her sit pretty is the infamous "go to trick" lol. And, now that she knows "crawl", anytime she is put in a down she will try to immediately start the crawl thinking that is coming next. Gotta keep these guys on their toes!! |

Leos understands Czech commands aswell as english. The puppy understands more Czech at the moment but is learning english (was the same with Baira and Leos as pups). I use "away" to release them |

| "Okay" is her release and in retrospect we wish we had gone with something else, but OK just kept rolling out. Problem is...a lot of times she is in a "stay" and we are talking amongst ourselves and that word comes up and OFF she goes lol. I'll give her credit for listening so intently (though she is no doubt listening for one word and one word only haha). |
