So my pup Walker (10 weeks now) has had some eating issues. The other day I noticed her eating less. Then a little less the next day. Then almost nothing the next day. Getting a little concerned I went and bought a recommended yummy-er brand to try. She still barely ate either. By this time you could physically see a difference of her getting thinner. So becoming more and more worried I adapted a homemade dog food recipe for her. Finally she has started eating again. She seems to like it and already looks better after a day and a half.

So now I'm wondering a few things. Are any of your gsp's (adult or pup) picky eaters? Also, because one of the thigs she didn't seem to like was the crunchy food, im thinking maybe it's just teething pains bothering her ? And that's why she likes tthe soft food I made her ?

Also if I keep feeding her this yummy food ( I even thought it smelt good...)  will she be spoiled to eat regular food later

on?..... I wil ask my vet about it  cos i hav apt Monday for booster shots anyway

Just some thoughts iv had.

I don't want to alarm you

Maybe she swallowed something and it has caused a blockage?

Mine would eat a brick if she were hungry enough, BUT, she is also very aware of if she is hungry or not and does not just eat unnecessarily. We go through periods of her lessening her food intake, and we just adjust accordingly.

I would attempt to get your puppy eating a food you intend to continue using, even if that means finding a brand that your puppy seems to like. It could be the teething. You could try putting a little warm water on the food to soften it a bit prior to feeding. You don't want it to be sopping wet, just softened.

I'm sure others will have much better advice for you.

I was going to suggest you get meds from vet to worm her. Puppies pick up worms so easy. Also, wet her food that you want to feed her, and then mix in some sardines. Or you can buy some goats milk and mix it into her food. Walmart has canned goats milk. Also check her puppy teeth for any broken teeth. Puppy teeth are sometimes not very strong and will break and then get painful.

I had the same problem, my guy was also looking a little thin . I tried wetting the food with water and he liked it at first but it didn't do much.

What I did was add some olive oil to his food and he loved it. it's also great for their coat.

It's just teething, don't worry about it. If you make the food smellier though (like with olive oil) they'll eat more even if they're teeth hurt.

By 11 weeks, he was finishing bowls without the olive oil.

I thought I had posted about the olive oil as well but I must not have finished it on my phone. I added that I wasn't if there would be any issue doing it at 10 weeks, because Bella was a bit older when we got her. BUT, there are times even now if I am being lazy and don't add her olive oil...she will just look at her dinner (after being so excited at the thought of dinner) and walk away. I will take it back up and add her dash of olive oil and shake it up good, and she eats it right away :)

The other thing that works is to get another dog. Nothing like a little competition.
