I have a friend whose dog split a couple of nails a few weeks ago while hunting. He's tried super glue on them and that seems to do the trick but every time he thinks they are good again they split all over. They are causing the dog some pain due to this. Does anyone have a method he could try to see if he can get those nails to hold long enough to grow out and heal right? He's looking at having the nails removed totally if he can't find a fix for them.

I would take the dog to the vet and have them cut back to remove the weak portion. It will take a little time for that to heal, but it should help with the reinjury. I would also ask the vet about a supplement to toughen the nails as they should not be splitting. Does he keep the dogs nails trimmed? Long nails will catch and split or tear.
