Got out again for a great hunt on Sunday. Wind was whipping, birds were running, but Sadie was able to track them down nicely. In one field, we put-up 5 birds (a hen, and 4 roosters). She quartered them down into the end of the field where they all flushed within seconds of each other. The field was standing corn, and high grass, so we were on either side, with the dog quartering between. I took a rooster that landed right next to my dad (on the far side), and Sadie fetched it as the other birds flushed. Quite exciting!

Also took this shot of Sadie during a break (it was 65, so we rested regularly).

Sadie put-up 11 birds, and retrieved each of the 4 we shot (between the 2 of us, we shot 6 shells all day, so we were banging-'em). She had some issues on the first retrieve, and actually tried to leave it (first one she tried to leave in 2012), but I corrected her, and she brought all 4 to my hand. I have the first bird on my hat-cam (a hen), which I will post once I can upload it. Great day! |

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd |

Good dog work makes the entire hunt. Bet your dad is impressed. |

| On the bird I shot that landed next to him, he said he was just going to pick it up, but she popped out, grabbed the bird, and popped back in to retrieve it back to me. He said he can't believe she is only 2, (Sadie would tell you she is 2 1/2, she is actually 2 1/4...) and she retrieves better than any dog we have had (of course, it took a lot of work). She is still a little sloppy on the retrieves - can't seem to find the grip. The owner of the club (who owns Brittanies) said pointers and brittanies struggle picking up the birds due to their size, vs. a retriever with a larger mouth. I don't know if I necessarily subscribe to that, but it sounds good... I will keep working with Sadie to clean-her up on fresh birds. Might just take some time. |

| By the way... we now have enough Phez for Moroccan Stew!! Going to make it over Thanksgiving (probably for the weekend after...). Thinking a good Cabernet to go along with it! YUM! |

Try Barolo. You won't be disappointed. |

Here is the video. I indicated the wind direction as it was pretty substantial. Sadie also seemed to figure-out the wind as the hunt went on, so I included her cross-wind work late in the hunt, where she stayed to the down-wind side of the field, and worked out, and back. I have no doubts she could scent the whole field by working this way. The video includes a kill-shot on a Pheasant (and in slow-motion), so viewer beware. They are really beautiful birds as the flush, though! Even more so in Slow-mo!
Hat-Cam works pretty good! |

| Nice job! I'm jealous of you guys chasing roosters. We don't have very good public land pheasant hunting in Oregon and I miss the plentiful amounts I used to hunt in Northern California. Good job Sadie! |
