Max & I were able to get out before work today & do to lack of posting decided to post todays hunt picture. Pretty exciting morning in all. arrived 7:23 - two hour total time hunted.First point woodcock. No intention on shooting.Second point woodcock no intention on shooting. Max was getting revvved ! Next bird I say I will try to harvest.Max slams for this grouse. The next bird a woodcock which max handled perfectly No safe shot so no bird. Last bird was a bumped grouse with no shot. I was so affraid max was going to be gunshy this year but all seems ok !

Very nice, always good to spend time out in the field with the dog. Congrats and once again that's a good looking pup you've got there.

It was alot of fun for sure.Been busy with work so hunting time has been limited. We do train everyday between our pen birds & walks here & there. I had a feeling that this last cold snap was going to get the woodcock moving south. Didn't want to miss it ! Been so worried about max with all the nonsense we have to deal with but I think my dilegence has paid dividends at least !

I didn't think your neighbor's antics would negatively affect Max during the hunt.

Woodcock migrate?

Yes they do . Here in NY  they just extended the woodcock season. In years gone by sometimes we would put up more woodcock after the seasons close then during the season. When the cold starts the migration from up above it can be quite exciting. American woodcock is my (our) favorite bird to persue !  We love the grouse also but woodcock are enjoyable ! Thank's for the compliment on Max !
