I'm thinking about adopting this 4 month old puppy below. They listed her as a GSP with a weight of 7lbs at 4 months.

What do you guys think? Would like to get some feedback/opinions as to her ("real"?) breed and weight for her age.

7 lbs at 4 months doesn't seem normal for a GSP, so it makes me think that she's a mix?

Sorry, that is not a GSP.

Looks like a mix to me. I do not see any GSP looks at all, but have seen mixes that do not outwardly appear as one of the parents.

I think this must be a spoof post. Not only is it not a GSP, but if it were 7 pounds it would not even look like that photo.

It's not a spoof post. I was at the shelter today and this photo is distorted on their website and makes the little puppy look much bigger than she actually is?

I agree that it has no GSP looks but at the LA shelter here they insisted it's a GSP and the lady even said her size is normal for 4 months.

I was just stunned and thought I was crazy, hence why I posted here? She looks like a mix to me too, maybe there is GSP in there but definitely with something else!

I mean if her growth rate is 7lbs at 4 months, then she will be 22.5 lbs at 1 year which will make her pretty small - almost beagle/terrier size.

Here, I adjusted the photo a bit on my own to make it better as they were obviously incabaple on the shelter website:

Definitely not a GSP. I doubt she has any GSP in her. Looks more like a terrier mix with something else. Way too small to for a shorthair. A full grown female would be at least 40 something pounds.

Thanks, I thought I was crazy when they told me her size is normal for her breed. LOL

Ok, glad you clarified. I have seen spam posts on here unfortunately that can seem real. You most definitely are not crazy...the lady at the shelter, however, may not be quite as educated on breeds as she might like to think lol. I also don't think this dog has a lick of GSP in it. For comparison, I'd say my female was about 20-25 pounds at 4 months of age and she was the runt of her litter. The coloring, paws, ears, and size, would also lead me to assume this puppy is more apt to be a terrier/beagle mix. It's an adorable puppy! But, just definitely not a GSP if that is what you are looking for to adopt.

Maybe you ought to bring some pictures of GSPs to the shelter.

Wonder if they are intentionally misleading.

If you are looking for a GSP try contacting your local GSP rescue. If you don't know how to find them google the German Shorthaired Club of America and look up rescue and send them an email and ask about a rescue near you. If you can't find it PM me privately and I will get you in contact with them directly.

Agree it's not a GSP but I have a tiny 4 month old (just over 4 months now). She's almost 8kg now. the whole litter was tiny but apparently the bitch had a small litter a few years ago and they all grew to with in the normal size range. I'm not fussed if she ends up small though as I don't intend to show or hunt her.
