Why is it, my miss priss, who maticulously walks through her potty area (almost on doggy tip toes) to make sure she doesn't step in any lingering potty outtings...Why is it that when bear poop is discovered, she MUST roll in it, and roll in it good? Her hunter orange vest was no longer orange.
The plus side...there is worse smelling poop to roll in than bear poop. |

I see no disparity here . Bella is making sure , in case a bear wanders by, it will have a skat of a good time.
I picked up Hannas predecessor from one of her outings and had to drive her home with my head out the window . |

Not sure why they like to do that . . . we have a very old Oak Tree at the lakefront. It is a beautiful tree. The dogs always want to go roll in the dirt under it. I always thought it smelled funny but was just like decomposing mulch (the mulch the trees every year). Then someone told me bats live in the hollow out portion of the tree and well, that was bat guano also known as bat poop. Well she was all brown and it smelled so bad .
Now she has ring worm in her ear. No doubt fungus is growing in that spot too. The ring worm is finally clearing up without any spread. Now I make they do not do that rolling under that tree any more.
Silly GSPs.

Well, the old excuse I've always heard is that, they are hunters, they do it to disguise they're scent. |

I can't even imagine how bad the bat poop smelled! Bird poop, from what I understand, is incredibly nasty. Our section of beach we frequent in the summer is on the verge of sea gull territory, and I have to keep a close eye on her as not to let her get too interested in bird poop or roll in the common dead seagull. I can't imagine bat poop is much better. Bear poop, is at least...mostly vegetation and I really had to convince myself it was poop (mostly because I didn't want to believe it as I wiped her down with wet wipes and scrubbed her vest as best I could since we hadn't even made it in the main woods yet LOL. I didn't do any research, but it really would be very interesting to know why they feel the need to do this. This is her first poop roll, but I have stopped her several times from going too crazy in something's remains. Nancy D, it's funny you say that, because my though was...well at least if she startles or comes up on bear (been meaning to get her a bear bell...not sure how the birds would respond to that though), maybe it won't pay mind to her since she smells like its poop |

| Yuck! Haven't seen either of ours roll in it but Velvet tramples on her own poop as soon as she goes. I can't even scoop it up in time and then I have to wipe her stinky feet. |

| Bella takes care not to step in hers. When the leaves started falling, and the backyard was covered, I was doing a training session with her and commanded her newest trick "crawl" (doggie army crawl style). Apparently she came darn near close to crawling through a pile of her poop (every now and when just hanging out in the yard she will forget to go poop in her potty spot). She was absurdly traumatized at the thought that she almost crawled through her poop and I couldn't get her to fully go into "down" position for several minutes after. My husband and I were cracking up on the inside, but trying to stay straight faced on the outside. She is SUCH a priss. |

prissy pants wouldn't consider rolling in stink of any sort or walking on or near poop BUT rabbit & deer poop are yummy, occasionally goose poop is nice but the top of the heap is to find cat poo (= vomit!) |

| Growing up around horses I'm no stranger to the smell of horse poop and it doesn't phase me as a result....but eating it...BLECH. The dogs say "what?...it's just a bit of horse apples" lol |

| yeah it is like a delicacy to them lol! They don't eat other types of poop, not their own, not cow, not sheep or goat... just the horse and so do all the other dogs that come over lol!!! I heard that horses don't digest food like other animals and that it is still really grainy, so I figure it must still seem like food to them cuz Blitz will try and eat the horses feed too! |
