  Hey y'all

i just bought my first GSP!!! His name is rebel and I pick him up oct 24 he will be 8 weeks old. I plan to crate train him right away but am still worried because I am a police officer and work third shift and my wife works days. He will get play and exercise time from about 4pm-11pm everyday. Can anyone offer advice or tips from personal experience about how to handle the situation of him being crated at night when my wife sleeps and then I will need to come home and sleep?!?!?!?!?!

I always made sure to let Rowdy out to go to the bathroom right before I put him in his crate for the night. That way he wouldn't go in his kennel if he could help it. They don't want to soil and area that small they have to stay in. As for getting sleep when he's kenneled, you may have to have one or two sleepless nights. I was fortunate in that the first night I had Rowdy he only whimpered/cried for 10 or 15 minutes before he quieted down for the night. However, with that said, if he cries, whines, barks, etc., for extended periods of time, whatever you do DO NOT let him out of the kennel. He will learn that if he cries, he gets let out. Just live with a night or two of minimal sleep. Then again, you may not have this problem. It remains to be seen.

On a separate note, welcome to the forum. Where are you from? Do you plan on hunting the pup? If so, what do you hunt?

I think you  will be amazed at how they adapt to your schedule, especially if it is consistent.

For pics you have to have a photobucket or flickr account and then use the direct link code to upload here. You will have to click on the picture icon in here and then paste the direct link in. I'm a big deer and elk hunter too. Has your guys' season started yet? I'm eating tag soup on deer, elk remains to be seen.

Hey it happens to the best of us. Good luck, hope you get your deer. Not sure why pics aren't coming up, perhaps another member would be better able to give you advice how to upload.
