Hunted quail today with my dad and his 12-year-old GSP.  We shot 15 birds (he shot a limit, I was one short with 7).  The most amazing thing was that Rowdy pointed 10 of the birds and retrieved 9 of them.  Kate, my dad's dog, pointed the others and retrieved the others.  Rowdy only refused to retrieve one of the quail, which he sat, mouthing and picking at, so I walked up and took it from him.  He DID bust 3 other quail that we didn't shoot at, but that is to be expected at this age.  I really have NO complaints about this dog, and am not trying to brag but love his natural ability.  I am going to video tape his next hunt so you guys can see him working.  It's pretty spectacular to watch a 6-month old pup doing what he does...  Getting lots of exposure and he's already had 27 birds shot over him this year, so that's great.

The worst day of hunting is better than the best day at work.

He's a GSP from FT lines - did you expect anything less?
If he doesn't have drive, what dog will?
