My fiance and I just picked up our 8 week old GSP pup from Great Plains Pointer Rescue last weekend.  He's one big ball of energy, but loves to cuddle and is a very fast learner.  We're in the middle of kennel training right now and it's definitely been interesting.  It kills me to hear him whine, but I know if we don't do it he'll never learn.  At fist he would wine for an hour, now he only whines for a few minutes and goes to sleep.  He's going to be a great addition to our family for many years to come.

Here's Kelly teaching him how to "knuckles".

Welcome to Barret.  What a cutie.  Yes hang in there with the crate training as it is so very worth it.

What a doll!! Congrats on the new addition. Yes, I think you're right...he will be a wonderful addition and bring you so much joy and laughter (and the occassional "what were you thinking you crazy dog?" moments). Oh, and the woman in me just wants to tell you that your ring in the one pic...gorgeous. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials as well! Lots of happy times ahead.

Yea, Tricia did a great job at raising 10 pups along with taking in the mom too. It was great to see all of the pups together and meet the family that took care of them. It was a 12 hour round trip, but definitely worth it. Right before we took Barret away, his mom (Lexi) pinned him down and gave him some good bye kisses.

Tricia was definitely right about Barret being a cuddler. When he gets tired he will curl up on your lap and pass right out. I think it's going to take him quite a while to get used to the kennel. Even if he can barely walk and keep his eyes open, he'll fight sleep when we try to kennel him. What's been working so far is have him fall alseep in my lap, and then move him to the kennel without trying to wake him. I know it's somewhat counter-productive, but baby steps are better than none at all.

Congrats on your puppy. He is a good looking shorthair. As for crate training my girl, halo, was like your pup when it was time to go to bed. She would be so tired, but would fight it. I would pick her up and hold her until she relaxed and went to sleep, and then woul put her in the crate. She learned to love the crate with no issues.

So sweet!

I second what Bev said. I would hold Bo in my lap until he fell asleep and then transfer him to the crate. It was the best (and easiest) way to get him to fall asleep. He loves his crate now.

Isn't it amazing? Isn't it amazing how instantly a picture of a pup can put a smile on our faces? They are just irresistibly cute!! puppies and babies.....instant smile!
