Welcome! Probably the most important things are get the puppy into a routine and start doing things to engage his mind. Play games with him that make him think and start training him as part of his play. Start as soon as he gets home. He will be happy and it will create a stronger bond. Also, socialize him by taking him with you and letting him meet new people and have lots of experiences. Just be careful where you take him until he has had all his shots. And don't forget to post pictures.

Get ready for some fun!!! We have had Mitz for close to 3 weeks now and overall it's been a fun experience. One thing that really helped us was Mitz's foster (He and 5 others litter mates were turned in to the Humane Society at 6 weeks) placed newspaper over a puppy pad and from day one, that's where Mitz knew it was ok to go. It has been huge for housebreaking and we have had only a handful of accidents in the house (and those were mostly dad's fault for not getting him out asap).

Best of luck and don't forget pictures!!!

Welcome and congratulations. Yes, as everyone has said...if you are at all active you have chosen an amazing breed. Ours has been just a joy, and the envy of all of our friends with dogs :)

Routine, socialization, consistency and Patience are all you really need :) With those components you will have a great dog!!

You will LOVE this breed!   We have always owned labs.  Our breeder started talking to us about the GSP breed, and we were immediately hooked.  Got one, took one home, and have never looked back!  It's going to be an amazing ride, and ever day will hold new experiences and challenges!  HAVE FUN and keep an open mind, and you will be just fine.....oh, and exercise and socialize DAILY!

You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
