  Hey everyone,

I'm a long time creeper and finally joined the fun here My girlfriend and I just adopted a gsp mix!  We named him Mitz for his paws.  He is turning 12 weeks tomorrow and what a ball of fire he is pastedGraphic_1.pdf I have a bunch of questions, but I just wanted to introduce myself first.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday night!

awww!  So cute!  I too feel he looks more GSP than mix!   Yep, I'd say he's gonna be a bird dog!

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I now know how people feel with kids! I can't seem to take enough pictures of him.

Now I have a few questions about his behaviors:

Why does he love to chew on the metal part of our bed frame? When I catch him, I tell him NO and give him one of his multiple toys to chew on. How long is it going to take him before he understands he shouldn't be chewing on the frame?

The past 2 days, I got all excited for a nice walk, but when we go outside, he just wants to sit on the grass (and try to eat some)? We have a nice loop around a pond where we can meet other dogs and people, but he doesn't want to go anymore. I'm trying to let him be a puppy but he seemed to like the walks.

How do I get him to stop eating dried worms on the sidewalk, and duck/goose scat? I can understand him wanting to eat the worms for extra protein, JK!

Thanks in advance! Hope you have a great weekend of training and enjoy the company of your friend (or in some cases, friends) :)

OMG he is a doll!! Look at those crazy eyes and wagging tail in the first pic!! And I need to rub that belly!!!!!!!!

OK must look away from the pics...........
Part of why the bedframe is attractive is it gets attention from you when he does it LOL Other reasons may include its cold and he's teething, you might try taking an old dishtowel, wetting it, rolling and knotting it and freezing it. It won't stay cold long but he may like the cold on his gums/teeth during teething

As for the walks - I am sure others may have additional thoughts but you know he's a baby and the world sometimes feels overwhelming. Most of the pups I've known have taken a while before they wanted to leash walk any distance. I didn't personally have that experience but it is kind of normal. I would say bring some yummy treats, reward him for walking nicely, let him stop and start, and don't force him to go any distance. My neighbor has a baby golden (now about 7 mos old) and he was hysterical until nearly 5 months old. He would set out for a walk all excited. See a large bird or a truck or a plane went over or......etc. and he would plop his butt down and you could see him thinking, "whoa!, what the heck is that???"
Somewhere between 5 and 6 months he decided he loved walking and will go as far as you like. So it sounds to me like your guy is just learning about the world and at times its pretty overwhelming :)

Please rub that belly for me!!!

Mitz is cute! Definitely looks more GSP to me. I find with our two that antlers are the best chew toys - they last a long time and they are all natural. Wish I could help you regarding walks but ours are pullers and I don't walk them anymore - my husband has to do it and I just tag along.

Hey Kpwlee and Smylinacha,
Thanks for the ideas on him teething. We are definitely going to try both ideas out!! We had an awesome walk yesterday and today we went to the dog park for the first time! He got to play with some bigger dogs and had a blast. Since we have been home, he's been lights out on his back :) Close to the same position as above. I'm glad he was able to blow some energy off!

Thanks for the input :)

you can also get one of those kongs and stuff it with natural peanut butter and freeze it... being cold and frozen will be nice for teething and it will be so tasty too!

The only time I recommend the leather chews is when the puppies are teething. They get good and gooey and really help remove the puppy teeth. I would still monitor them when chewing though as they can get pieces off and swallow them. I usually get a big leather chew for puppies as they have a hard time getting anything off of the big chews.
