Tried to submit this before, but it did not come up . . . submitting again however worded differently.

Have any suggestions on how to stop it?

The wooden fence we had before Hurricane Isaac has fallen again from the tidal surge and it has been torn down.  We are now going to have a chain link (we call it Hurricane fencing for a reason) put in.  This is the quickest thing we can have put up at a reasonable price.

The issue comes in with fence fighting by the neighbor's border collie on one side and the english shepards (who are very dog aggressive) on the other.  Recently, since we have no fencing and one neighbor is never good about keeping her dogs contained, came to our side where the fence is still up for the English Shepards and well, for the second time he was grabbed through the fence.  These dogs have been trained to protect their chickens (which are not really supposed to be there as it is not zoned for that), and they take that job seriously.  My husband helps to get the border collie away from the fence, who is bleeding by this time, and the second English Shepard charges the wooden picket fence and breaks through, and ultiamtely my husband is bittten on the hand when the dog again comes to attack the border collie.  No doubt they were going to kill the dog had no one intervened.

So the fence fighting is serious.  The neighbor on one side that has the border collie is willing to work with me to deter this.  The other neighbors said they are moving as there is strict liability for dog bites here in Louisiana and they failed to have their dogs vaccinated (despite the fact that he is an ER physician).  The dogs have been quarantined and since the dogs have been known to kill racoons (that typically carry rabies here) my husband has had to go through the injections.  If things were not stressful enough after Hurricane Isaac, they are more so now.  Tensions are high, but they are moving to a house they built in the country (several acres) which is for the best.  So I am thinking that issue will go away.

But there remains this border collie . . . that is very afraid of people, but has death wish to fence fight as he has done this with the neighbors dogs since I have lived there.  The dog does not come when the owner calls it, however if I go out there and tell the dog to go home, he immediately stops the fence fighting and goes nome.

Any suggestions on how we can stop this death wish this border collie is on?  I work hard with my dogs and I have pretty much deterred their behavior on one side, although they will run the fence which excites on the other side to charge, but this border collie is so persisent at it.  He is just a pet, has no job which is probably a biggest part of the issue.  But I don't see that changing.

Roz.

Would your neighbor be willing to try an invisible fence on that side of the yard. They could set it up a few feet from the fence so the dog can't get right up on the fence. I don't know if it would work, but might be worth a try. Also, have the dogs met on neutral turf? If not, you might try that too, just like you are introducing a new dog into your pack. Maybe a dog park or baseball field. If you get them playing together it would probably stop the fence running. If you do this intro your dogs one at a time so the neighbors dog doesn't get overwhelmed.

Max is right. I know some folks who have had good luck with Contech scarecrows. Not a guarantee, but if it works it is a lot cheaper than building a fence.
