Hi John and welcome to you and your adorable pup. Haven't hunted in years, but there are plenty of folks here that can help you with training suggestions.

Welcome to the forum, John.  I would start with asking how want your dog to perform in the field in a perfect world - what do you want him to do?  What sort of cover and game are you hunting?  Do you want him to retrieve downed game?  These types of questions will dictate where you go with training, and what type of equipment you will need.

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd

Nice looking pup! Nice to hear your dog is pointing a partridge wing. Nothing is much more fun then hunting huns. Where are you located?

thanks for the responses. Tgatto, i would like my dog to hunt close, point and retrieve. After that i will get him into duck hunting, however that will be down the road. i live in New Brunswick, Canada. We have partridge, woodcock and turkeys here. we have every type of cover you can think of. thick, fields, a lot of planted tree ground. ect ect. He loves the water, so duck will not be an issue. i want his #1 trade to be pointing partridge. He started pointing wings at 9 weeks, now at 6 months it is a perfect point, holds it till i shoot the cap gun, then retrieves for me so i think i am well on my way. Any more suggestions will help.
I would like to post some pics, However i have no clue how to.
