Hello fellow GSP owners!! Im new here and what brought me here was That I lost my "Max" yesterday to a horrible Bufo toad, He was a 4 year old  Liver and white GSP and its just killing me   I wanted to spread the word to all south florida members about these nasty toads, when its hot and humid and raining please keep an eye on your dog!! Eveyone knows how the breed is and he just couldnt help himself and chewed one up and it killed him very fast.....I am planning on getting a puppy  in a few months, so if anyone knows a good breeder I would love to hear from you....

Hi and welcome. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Max. Toads in some areas can be very deadly. Fortunately, where I am in No. MI none of our toads are. Can't help you as to a breeder, but I'm sure there are others here who can. Bless you and wish you the best in your search for a new pup.

Greetings!  Welcome to the forum!  So sorry to hear about Max.  I wish you well in your search.  The site has no local memory, so you have to post photos elsewhere, and link/embed them here.  The one exception is your Avatar, which can be loaded into the "My profile" area when you are logged in.  Better descriptions of how to load pictures is in this same, "General" location (pinned, at the top):  web.whc.net/shorthairs/GSPForum/tabid/220/forumid/2/postid/42164/view/topic/Default.aspx

Lots of users here use snapfish, or photobucket.  I use Walgreens (hey, I put them there anyways), and also Gundogsonline.com (has a photo posting area).

It is watching the dogs work that I thoroughly enjoy, and love. I could get by with just watching them work - if it weren't for all the training, and the joy they exhibit when they pick-up, and deilver to hand a bird that they pointed, and you shot. - Todd

Oh, Jupiter, I am SO sorry for your loss. Poor Max he was so young.  While I don't know what it's like to lose a pet to a Bufo Frog, I can say  i know all to well the pain from losing a pet, period.  We lost our 10 year old chocolate lab in January, and it still breaks my heart.  We didn't know she had cancer until we went to the vet.  THey put her down that day.    We lived in Florida for 3 years, and I know the seriousness of the Bufo Frog.  We had to flush out our dogs with the hose almost daily.  I'm so sorry, and thanks for your post to warn others of the seriousness.  Our GSP's love the frogs in our backyard.  We don't think they are Bufo frogs, but they have made them seriously ill with vomiting, diarrhea and such.  We walk them in the front yard on leash at night now, as we don't want to take any chances.  R.I.P. Max.  So sorry Jupiter.

Thanks everyone! @gsplover, What happened was I let him out back like I always do in the morning, it was still dark, and I havent seen a toad in my back yard in years but the tropical storm we just had rainned so much that the toads were everywhere and they jumped in the pool so Max jumped in too. The toad posion gave him a seizure and cramped up his muscles and he drowned, It happened so fast :( When I found him like that It was the worset site I have ever seen in my life......It breaks my heart.

Jupiter, I'm so sorry.  There's just no way you could have known.  The same outcome would probably have happened inside or outside the pool.  Those Bufo Toads are very deadly. There is nothing you could have done.  I can only imagine how traumatic that scene was.   My heart and prayers go out to you.  So tragic. So untimely.
