My wife and are are going to have our 4 th baby our other children are much older and have no problem with the Dogs they are exstremly high energy and a lot of fun will neutering them and the age of 4 help calm a GSP down we are consirned for the new born

I agree with pixie. Obedience training is your best bet for getting them under control. I have a male I neutered at 3 YO and he is now 4 YO and still full of energy. I do obedience with all my dogs though and that really does make a huge difference. Many think my shorthairs are unusually calm for the breed, but it is the training.

I fourth the above. My GSP is 28months and still intact. He's still a hyper beast but obedience is key to keeping him controlled and calm[er].

Windsor is going to be 4 in December. The day of his neutering appointment we called and cancelled. We wanted him to mellow out a bit but after reading on here it does not calm them down.....training does. Being persistant with commands does, giving a gsp "something to do" each day to keep the mind busy does. To me it is like having a lovable toddler all over again

I wouldn't neuter to calm them down but I might neuter if i had no intention of properly breeding them (meaning doing all the tests, research etc) Accidents happen when humans are busy with other things

Yeah we spayed Velvet when she was done with her heat. I had no idea she was going to go into one because it was only a few months after we got her. I mean I knew she wasn't spayed but wasn't expecting her to have a heat so soon after she was with us. And at times I wasn't careful with Velvet and Windsor together and at one point I thought she could have been pregnant. I was THRILLED to have puppies but at the same time I've never been through that before and it would have been scary for Velvet, nerve wracking and expensive for us. My husband was through it but years and years ago. So Windsor is still in tact but she is fixed. Didn't calm her down either. She is going on 8 and has the same energy level as Windsor. She can actually out run him!
