has anyone not heard their dog bark?

Baira barks all the time but we've had Leos almost a year now and I don't think i've heard him bark once. I've heard him play growl whilst he's playing but he doesn't bark.......ever.

Bella rarely barks. It wasn't until probably 6 months that I'd say I even heard her bark. She gives usually just a grrrr ruff, and then grumbles if anything. I'll take it. I'd rather not have an overly vocal dog.

Belle is like that. She was almost a year before she barked, and even then only when it was important. Even today if I hear Belle bark, I go check it out.

Velvet doesn't really bark - she "sings" - not a whine but a constant sound when she gets excited - like when she sees a deer or wants dinner.

Leos doesn't ruff or sing or anything and he's just over 15 months old now. All he does is wag his tail so hard that his whole body moves. We had a laugh at the vets this morning as she was checking out his ear after the infection. He was stood so still, he was so good but the vet was laughing because his whole body was still moving from the movement of his tail. lol

Binni is 10 months old and VERY rarely barks.  She was 6 months old when she barked for the first time. I think she scared herself when she barked.  It really concerned me when she was little, but we are used to it now.  Binni is however, very vocal. She loves to sing.  It's a very high pitched yelp almost.  If I leave the house, you can hear her "singing" until I come back in.

I have a 7 month old english springer spaniel that barks if the grass blows in the wind.  So, I will not complain about Binni not barking.

My dog Sadie is 24 months old. She barks regularly when we are playing or wrestling. Occasionally she will bark at something in the yard outside in the dark, but not very often. I can still remember when she "found" her bark voice. She was about 10 weeks old and out of this little dog came this big loud "ruff". Seemed to startle even her at first. She will whine when she wants something or is not happy, but very seldom if ever barks in that situation.

Lucy has a high pitched bark that I would love not to hear as much as I do. :-)

I think Bugsy was over a year before we heard a bark or a noise from him - we thought he was mute LOL
He is a whiner but rarely barks still today - I'd say we might hear a bark once every few months, sometimes less.
We have discovered that certain noises will inspire him to 'sing/howl' along with you and when he does it is FREAKING loud :)

It's Bugsy's world...

I'm with you everbell.  Dutch is the worst.  He barks at other dogs barking, the doorbell, and if a motorcycle goes by (He thinks it's my son).  He also barks at barking dogs and doorbells on TV.  When Reilly barks, I go check it out, he usually has a good reason.
