I thought I would try to get some still pics from a video we shot of our 9 month old GSP jumping in the pool. He will not dive after a toy yet, but he will jump right on top of us if we are not careful. I have read some people asking how to get a dog in a pool. I am no expert but will share what we did. Each of these pool sessions were about 1 week apart. Just to note, he never seem scared by the pool, I just pushed a little to do what I thought he could do.
Session 1 - pulled him in and he never got his paws under the water. Looked like a total goof, but would come to the side of the pool when called. He seemed pretty calm though when I would hold him in the water.
Session 2 - had to pull him in, but started to swim a little by the end of the day. Seemed to really enjoy being held in the water.
Session 3 - swam good and much faster and would enter the pool at the steps by the end of the day. Would kind of slide in from the side.
Session 4 - Swimming fast, would actually catch most of the adults. Had to really watch for claws at this point. Would jump in off the top step and would give a little jump from the side.
Session 5 (pics below) - Got his confidence to jump in, but will only jump in if people are in the pool. The pics below I had him in a sit stay and got him to chase me into the pool. He had about a 10-12 foot running start. Any idea how far they get to run in the dock dive competition? Now that I see he will jump on top of me (my fault), time to get him to chase toys in the pool.
