Do you guys use them? and if so at wat age would you start using it? and if you dont use them Why and What would you recommend in place of that?

I have a 14 week old GSP and was wondering if I could start using it. or if I need to get something else?

Thanks

Will

Whichever they mean 14 wks is far too early.
Others will give more specific ideas but honestly you need to be working on basic commands and developing a positive relationship (especially communication)
Shock collars have a purpose but they are only to be used after the pup/dog knows the commands and what is expected.
I am 100% against choke collars, if you truly need to down that route I believe prong collars - used properly- are a more humane tool.
I can't recommend strongly enough that you work on developing a positive relationship with your pup, not physical punishment. Learn what motivates them and get them to want to work for you & please you, not fear you

At 14 weeks I still had a pup that walked easily by my side ;/

I second kpwlee, now is prime training time. If you put in time, effort, consistency you may need no walk assister at all. I used a head lead with Bella in places of high distraction to help eliminate pulling, but offset heel and free walk (walking with more leash slack) because she had an innate need to sniff and explore her world.

We just bought slip leads....the ones that Cesar Milon uses and tried them today.....much less pulling right from the start. We also use the Tritronics G3 sport correction collars but those will now be used for off-leash training. Our dogs are older, never got them as pups but I don't think I would use a correction collar on a puppy.

I would not use a shock collar until at least a year. As others said the dog has to understand the commands first. Even then I only use a shock collar if I need that level of reinforcement. As for choke I usually recommend the pinch as it is less likely to damage a trachea. I do use a choke for training my dogs, but I never let them pull when training. At 14 weeks I would think you could train with a flat collar.
