This is an article about how the new point system was actually derived.  The discussion at the end of the article is also interesting.

I still don't see how they figured to raise the New England point schedule for bitches to almost double (11 versus 6) the point requirements for New York, PA, & NJ which are right next door. I looked up the Maine shows -- the most points they ever generated was 1 and some of the shows had no points in Shorthairs at all. Yet they get lumped in to Division 1 by default. This is really going to further hurt the small shows in our Division. I could just as easily travel to New Jersey or New York where the requirement is only 6 rather than drive to Maine or the Carroll County shows in northern New Hampshire -- or the shows in VT. Those little clubs are strugglng already, and this will lure people to drive south rather than north even more. I don't see where all the big entries have been that have been figured into their calculation.

Well, we certainly can't say AKC is cheapening majors in our part of the country. It's the disparity to our neighboring states that's shocking.

And those shows have had nice venues, shopping, pretty drives etc etc!  But.............I think you are exactly right Sandra.  I think it will take folks cooperating to build entries at any of these shows.

I am also wondering if shows that used to be in NY that are now in MA will return to NY, I believe there were less entries when in NY but that may be my perception this morning before my second cup!  Again, I think it's going to take communication on our parts to make sure we support the smaller shows and to build good entries.

My recollection of why all these shows had move to MA is the site location, NY cost, etc.  Other than a handful or Northern shows or on LI, I can't think of more than a handful that are in NY anymore.

Both Springfield and Fitchburg have good friendly dog show sites and decent motels that allow dogs. I can't imagine they will move back to NY because of the point schedule.   I wonder how the other breeds fared - did the MA area also go up for other breeds?

The clubs at the dome in Queensbury lost the site due to piggy owners not cleaning up after their dogs. When added to the problems with the town when some motorhome people insisted that staying overnight was their right (zoning doesn't allow any overnight camping there), the dome opted to not have them return. Those shows have not moved, they are no longer held.

It's my understanding that the other clubs from the Albany area left for a chance at better entries in Springfield. Since they are adding days, that strategy must have worked for them.

I had heard from Margaret Farone that there was an alternative site to the Big E in Northampton that was very dog friendly. Does anyone know if events are planned there?
