Hey everyone,

I am new so bear with me... My fiance and I just rescued a 2 yr old male GSP last saturday.  He is very energetic, and a quick learner.  I would like to work with him for upland birds and am trying to figure out how to go about this.  I have trained a Lab before with great results until he had to retire at a young age due to ACL tears...  I am working on recall and sit and hes doing O.K.    Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome.
Thanks for taking in a 2 year old.

Best thing you can do is get him on birds - if his recall is not reliable then keep him on a check cord until it is.
Wild birds would be best - if you are going to use planted birds then make sure they fly well. A launcher would help achieve your goals faster with planted birds.

obedience is always good to know, but obedience doesn't find game.
Balance your training and you two will have an easy time of.
