I took Keely to one of her regular haunts last weeks for a run around.  It's basically a community regeneration park situated within a disused open cast mine.  Loads of shallow ponds, woodland, scrub, grassland, conifer plantation and loads of wildlife.  It is sited on the edge of a village and sometimes we meet other dogs and owners.

On wednesday last week i decided to let her stay off leash when we were approaching other people and dogs to see how she would respond and she was great.  She came back to me straight away and never hesitated to leave a dog to come to me.  After meeting a lot of dogs we were walking towards the gate to leave when we met a gentleman walking his sisters weimerarner and something with resembled a poodle/terrier mix (male).  The weimy growled at her and she turned her attentions to the male mix and the two ran around me and the guy while we talked.  I didnt take my eyes off her for more than approx 15-20 seconds as they stayed close by.  Towards the end of our chat, the mix mounted her face (daft dogs!!), and he called the dog off and we went our separate ways.

It wasnt until later i started to worry that maybe something had happened for the 15-20 seconds i wasnt watching.  She hasnt had a season yet and isnt in estrus just now, but i'm still worried (i am rather paranoid about these things). Am i being silly? I know that it's unlikely that he had time to do the deed and also unlikely that she could concieve just now. Help.

Relax, Keely is still a puppy. Mounting is not always sexual. If she isn't in season, you have no worries about puppies even if something happened, which I highly doubt.

Phew, i did wonder if her girl bits would even be developed enough to produce anything, but then i know some bitches go into their first season at 6 months, although i'm sure it's smaller breeds that do so early.

Yes, she is far too young. Plus, if he had managed to cover her in the 15 seconds you weren't watching, they would have tied (you wouldn't have been able to get them apart for about 20 mins). Don't sweat it!
