I was wondering if anyone could suggest a suitable kong filling for a 10 week old pup.  I'm planning on crating Keely for small sessions each day building up to help prevent sep anxiety in the future when she is left at home.  Because i work from home she wont be left often but we would like to prepare her for when we need to leave her at home for a couple of hours in the future.

I used peanut butter or cream cheese in a kong for Kintra just to keep her occupied for the first 5-10 minutes after we left and she was always calm and non-destructive.  What could i use in a kong for a pup?  Is she too young for peanut butter? Just trying to find something that REALLY keeps her interested for this training.

I can't comment on peanut butter for a young puppy but I used to fill Rayne's Kong and then freeze it before giving it to her. It lasted a little longer that way. If you Google "What to put ina Kong" or something to that effect you'll get some interesting recipes. The other thing that will amuse her for a while is one of those balls that you put kibble inside. The dog has to push it around or move it to get the food out.

Thanks. Yeah,i've heard that frozen gravy is a favourite. It's just that i havent really introduced any other foodstuffs yet, only her kibble and puppy treats. She's definately food driven so i dont think she'll be picky. i'll maybe just give her some of her kibble quota and soak it and stuff it into the kong. I've got a kibble ball but her kibble's too small and just runs out of it, although i'm sure she wouldnt mind that too much ;0)

I used canned dog food too and froze it and it worked well.

Luna loves not only frozen peanut butter but also frozen plain yogurt. Both keep her occupied for a while when needed :)

I was just gonna say frozen yogurt...for some reason I never thought of canned dog food...when I use peanut butter I use the natural peanut butter cuz it doesn't have the added sugars...

Thanks, will give all of those a try. I wonder also if goats milk would freeze or whether it may be too high in fat. The breeder had been giving it to the litter as a treat and she still goes crazy for it.

The problem with goats milk is that if she does not lick it all out and it thaws out, it will make a mess. I suspect it will freeze, but it may separate which might also be messy. Instead mix some goats milk and dry or moist dog food together and freeze it that way. If you mix it with dry let it soak up and then add a bit more before you freeze it.
