So here are some pictures of us working with Remi on learning Whoa. Our trainer suggested using a "buddy stick" with a prong collar to start out. We keep him in heel just walking around the yard and give him the whoa command and a gentle jingle of the prong collar. He's caught on fast. The prong collar is supposed to simulate an E-Collar which we will work our way into training with soon. We will use a slight tingle for Whoa out in the field.
Him given the Whoa command When we're training he usually doesn't put his tail up...but he was introduced to live bird and his tail shot straight up
Here something has sparked his interest, but he remains still on whoa.
A test with out the buddy stick attached
And a perfect Whoa out of him just testing him in the yard one morning when he spotted some birds.
And again..
Tomorrow we go back for more training and he'll get put on live birds while on a check cord to see how he does. Wish us luck!
Love these pics of your handsome boy - looking forward to some pics and the tale of tomorrow's work!
Looking good, your pooch reminds me a lot of my Creek. I'm reading that a lot of you are starting whoa work already. I too have started Creek (8mo) on "whoa" of sorts but I'm using the word "stay" instead. Whoa in my opinion sounds too much like no. Plus I'm a 27 year retriever guy and we use stay to stop the hound. Anyways good work and keep postin the pics
