So I've really gotten into skijoring this winter with my older GSP and have introduced my border collie to it as well. I'm so happy with how fit they have gotten (and me too!) that I want to continue bikejoring once the snow melts.

I'd really like to add my younger GSP to the mix as well, but I'm wondering if it might affect his hunt training? Skijoring/bikejoring teaches them to get on a path and run, and stay on the path. Obviously that is not something I want when hunting.....but I'm wondering if he's smart enough to differentiate? Do you think he could learn harness on, hooked up means stay on the path and work vs no harness, running free means get out there and look for birds?

I don't see it as a problem. I know a few people who sled and hunt their DKs.

Something we have been thinking about, just never got around to doing it,yet.

I don't see where it would cause a problem. The dogs IMHO are smart enough to differentiate.

Glad to hear both of you say that. I was leaning that way too. Now, I just need to work up the nerve to try him out.....

I don't think your dog will have any problem doing both activities. Many people here sled adn skijor with their GSPs in winter to keep them in shape for hunting. One of my puppy people is big time into canicross, skijoring and bikejoring with Murphy, his pup. Once he hits the field, all he's thinking about is birds!
