I know both are dqs, but what is the difference between the two? They both seem like the same thing to me (and it's not something I've run into in my other breed.)

Thanks!

Wall eye is when eye is blue and one is brown.
China eye is when an eye that is either whitish, spotted, clear blue, or light blue.

This is a DQ in the GSP, but hey, it could occur from 120+ years ago when the breed was being developed. All you need is 2 dogs with the same passed on gene and BINGO!

Thanks, Pixie Bee.

I know what you mean by hidden genetics. Cavaliers and English Toys (Charlies to you Brits) were the same breed in the first half of the 1900s. You can breed cavaliers, KNOW you bred two cavaliers, and still have something pop out that you swear is an ET. SURPRISE! ;)

Here is a pretty good article on the eyes in dogs and the different terms used and what they mean.

www.dog.com/dog-articles/dog-eye-facts/2052/

The definition for walleye here and in pixie's post is the common definition used when talking about dogs, but there is a second definition or walleye which is more commonly used with humans, but sometimes you come across in the dog world.  That definition is when the eyes don't point straight but instead are pointed our or are crossed.

Bev, I know about wall eyes as in both not pointed in the same direction, but my impression from the breed standard was that wasn't what they meant, so I looked it up. We see that "wall eye" that you mention in cavaliers, particularly in prominant eyes (what many people call "bug eyes.") Those buggy eyes aren't correct, as an aside. (I know you all care about the cavalier breed standard LOL)

I guess I wasn't very clear. What pixie stated and what is in the article is the definition of wall eye that is the typical meaning in dogs. I just wanted to let folks know that once in a while when you see wall eye the person is actually referencing the eye position, so it can be confusing in that case.
