What type of show collar/lead setup do you use?  I need suggestions for a puppy.

Thanks

I use a fine choke collar on both of my dogs. They both seem to respond well to it and give me lots of control. When I first started showing, I used a nylon collar, I personally did not care for it. I also use a kangaroo clip lead on both dogs. I trained my current special from the time I got her at 8 weeks old on the lead and collar I currently show her on. Hope that helps!!

I use a fine chain on my puppy, Fauna. Used the same chain on Halo when she was a pup. I later switched Halo to a kangaroo braid collar. Use a plain kangaroo braid lead regardless of collar. Will probably switch Fauna to the kangaroo braid collar when she is older. I like the kangaroo lead because it is easy on the hand and doesn't slip. Also, easy to bunch up. I tried the fancy leads with the beads, but did not like them. Hard to bunch and frankly thought they distracted from the dog.

Hi, I can't tell you what to use on a GSP, but I wanted to comment on Bev's post...those beaded leads are a pain. I show cavaliers, and I have some that I won somewhere, and they are ok, but if the beads are up too high, they are a pain to manage. The only *good* thing about the beads is that you can request small square beads with your initials in them so they can go in your hand; I've lost a few kangaroo leads because someone liked them as much as I did and walked off with them. Grr.

It is nice to try a few, though, if you can find someone who will let you borrow one to figure out what you like. There are places that will make them for you to your specs. I bought mine at Leashes by Lyndale:

They are NOT cheap, but the quality is good, and she'll make whatever you want. I don't get anything from them by recommending them; I'm just a happy customer. There are other places that will do it as well, but this is where I've gotten mine.
