Snip's Sixth Sens Wyatt finished up his Master Hunter today at the Southern Maryland English Setter Club in the woods of Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, MD. Wyatt finished in grand style under a great deal of pressure as a 19 month old pup; after having his first Chukar find in the woods edge go back over top of the Gunners and Judges when I tried to put it back out into the field requiring a "No Shot" and then landing 30 yards away at the woods edge; he then Honored his bracemates retrieve after it had(what I perceived) broken on the shot; had his 2nd find buried up inside of the woods edge hedgerow with no way of getting it to flush out of the cover and requiring a blank(he couldn't have broke if he wanted to he was buried in that deep!); had his 3rd find(a "football" of a Chukar flush in the wide open) missed with 2 barrels, to only land 40 yards away on the fields edge and run into the woods in sight; had his 4th Chukar find fly right back towards the bird planters truck and the gallery 40 yards away for another "No Shot" and also landing almost next to them in sight; not to mention on 2 of his Points, his bracemate had to be whoaed into it's Honor after getting within less than 5' of him. The 1st time, the handler in their 1st Master run, wasn't aware that you could not Whoa the dog allowing for a 2nd chance and the 2nd time was just to keep the dog from taking Wyatt out. The 5th find was the winner for him! Wyatt has withstood some pretty amazing pressure a number of times through his 6 Qualifiers, including having his retrieves stolen on 2 different occasions by the Honoring bracemate, 20 bird covey finds popcorning up and Chukar running right at him and then flushing over top of his head; but what has impressed me most with Wyatt, was just how screwed up the situations had to get and how much pressure he had already dealt with previously in the braces he did not qualify in, to finally get him to blow up. This young dog has a VERY promising future ahead of him! Wyatt also finishes out the Class of 2010 of 3 new Master Hunters(Ruby, Dollar & Wyatt), 2 new Senior Hunters(Gunner and Heinz) and 1 new Junior Hunter(Lacie), as well as a several Trial placements and a slew of just good ol' hunting companions and house buddies. Apologies for all the wind, but it's been a pretty good year around here as far as the "pups" have been concerned.
Wow, 19 mos and a finished master hunter is really impressive!! Congrats on this accomplishment and everything else you've done this year!
