I was wondering if anyone had tips for this

my problem is that my dog is 4months and i cant seem to get him to listen the biggest thing is my wife and three year old daughter try to pet him and he thinks its play time and just trys to bite them not in aggression but i think playing he does it to me also but not as much how can i get him to stop.

also he will not quit jumping up on us as we walk and jumping on guest i rather not keep him in his crate when people are at my house but sometimes i have to because he wont stop.

i know he is a pup but its bad and i rather not see this stuff go on as he gets older and bigger.

oh yeah one last thing what are some methods of keeping him off the dinner table even when food isnt up there not as big of problem as the others but he wont stop that either.

thanks for the info.

He just needs to be taught some manners.

For the biting I will gently grab the lower jaw with my hand and using my thumb press down on the tongue gently and only release when he pulls back. That usually works pretty quickly, but I also start that right away with a puppy. With a 4 month old it may take longer. Also be sure to always have something else to offer him to chew on like a bone. He is teething now and those new teeth coming in hurt which may be why he is putting his mouth on everything including you and your family.

For the jumping, you have two issues he jumps on you guys when you walk and he jumps on guests. So, for the jumping while walking problem if he is in front of you you can put a knee up and gently push him off and tell him no. If he is behind you, just stop, tell him off, and grab his collar and pull him off. If you are standing and he jumps on you you can use the knee if in front or tell him off and pull him off. I like the knee method because they seem to learn faster. Some folks will just turn their back on the dog and not move until the behavior stops, but it sounds like from your post his is also jumping up on your backside too, so that might not work for you. You are going to have to be persistent with this and never miss the opportunity to correct. Also remember to praise him when he is not jumping on you or when you correct him and he has his feet four on the floor as that is the only way he will know what you want him to do. Again since he is four months this may take some work on your part.

For your guests, if you know they are coming over ask them to help you when they get there. Put your pup on a leash and do not let him run to the door when the door bell rings. Instead walk calmly with him to the door and make him sit. Only after his is sitting open the door and let you guests in (you might want to get your wife to let the guests in so you can continually concentrate on the dog). When the guests come in he will likely start jumping, so be prepared and correct him and put him back in a sit. In fact, at any point he gets up you should put him back in a set. Remember to also reward him for his good behavior when sitting with a treat. Once your guest are inside if he jumps at them, while you are putting him back in a sit have them turn their backs and under no circumstances should they talk to him or pet him unless he is sitting. Keep this up and he will eventually sit when guest arrive anticipating attention.

Finally the table. You didn't say, but I suspect he has been rewarded at least once for getting on the table by finding food up there. Dogs have long memories so I am sure he is hopeful he will find food again. So first, make sure he never finds a reward on the table if he does get up there. If he is using the chairs to get up there, make sure they are all pushed in so he can no longer use them. If he is jumping up from the floor then I would try putting empty coke cans with rocks in them around the edge of the table. The idea is if he attempts to jump up there he will hit the cans, knock them off and it will startle/scare him. I would have suggested mousetraps as they work a bit better, but you have a little one and I don't want her to get her hands in a mousetrap. You can also accomplish the same thing by correcting him when you catch him, but the problem is you may not always be there when he does it. You can also buy something called a scat mat online which may work. I have never used it so I don't know how effective it would be, but it sounds like it might work and would be an alternative if the cans don't work. I would try those alternatives first and if they don't work, repost and I will give you some more ideas.

Remember all these are going to take some time and allot of consistency on your part and the part of your wife. Good luck!!

My puppy Asher is 6 months old. He is very difficult yo train because he doesn't really jump up on you, he just sort of pops up and down really fast.
I broke this by teaching him by ignoring him until he calms down. It took the full 6 moths but he will not jp at all. Now, sometimes in his excitement it will take him a few minutes to actually chill. And you have to remember to tell guests and family to ignore the dog until he sits. Sure enough it works. Also, when I bend down to let him, if he stands up I stop and put my hand behind my back. He will immediately sit right back down. It takes time and patience.

The mouthing/biting thing. Asher does that as well. I did the same thing the previous poster did and it worked lime a charm.
