So our 9 week old GSP pup is getting used to being at home with us now. He is really starting to devlop more and more each day. The issue I am having right now is trying to get him used to the kennel as he was not trained from the breeder. He is still wimpering/barking/crying at night but not as much. He will pee and poop in his kennel and it does not seem to bother him. Is there anything I can do to stop this or make him not want to go in there? I try to not keep him in his kennel to long but there are times during the day when both me and my wife are at work and cannot let him out. I think part of it may be due to the size of the kennel as we originally bought it for our Lab/Retriever but he did not take to it. It is a larg wire crate and I have read where they say to section it off. Has anyone had to do this and if so what did you use to do so? Also any suggestions on how to get him to stop going in the crate (he will sometimes go after being in there for only an hour or so and going out 3-4 times prior to having him go in the kennel)?
also, I am thinking of getting a vari type kennel instead of the wire one I have now.... What size ould I need, medium, large, or XL?
Yeah, I figured while we were out there was no way to avoid him going in the crate. The wire crate is to large as I would probably need a couple of milk crates to keep him contained. I went ahead today and got one from Gander Mtn. that is more for his size and and enclosed kennel (like the vari, but made by remington). Does anyone have any experience with these kennels? Do they hold up? should I get a different brand?
