Wow, that is a big litter and to have them that fast. Congratulations on the healthy puppies. Also nice to have a pretty even mix of males and females. Can't wait to see more pictures.

I just had my first litter last August and Halo had 13. She had the first 5 naturally and then one got stuck so we ended up with a C section for the remainder. Of our 13 we had 11 that made it. So, you are lucky that she did so well. Congrats again on the puppies. Enjoy them now and get plenty of rest because come about 4 weeks you will start working your behind off. By 8 weeks you will be begging your puppy buyers to take the little stinkers home. LOL. Actually, I had a blast with the litter and it is just as much fun keeping up with them now, but they are allot of work when they get a bit older.

I am worried if she is producing enough milk for them but they suckle for a bit and then sleep. If you dont mind me asking how early did you lose the 2.

The second puppy born was stillborn and had been dead for a while. After that they were all ok until the one got stuck in the birth canal. We don't know if he was dead when he entered the birth canal or not, but when they got to him via the C section they could not revive him. The rest flourished and did well. I just made sure the smallest had some free shots at the milk bar without their larger brothers and sisters. Also, at first I helped some of the puppies latch on to momma's nipples. Halo had a ton of milk and she was able to nurse all 11 puppies with no issues. Just watch their weights and make sure they are gaining or staying at least even. If one drops a small amount that is not cause for worry, but if they continue to loose or drop two weigh ins in a row I would start supplementing. I weighed my new borns twice a day for the first couple of weeks.

Thank you for your help! Some dropped a little today at the morning weigh in but most were at or just above the birth weight. All were up at the evening weigh in.The little one has me a little concerned but I,like you ,am making sure he gets alone time while the others sleep. If he does not put on weight over night i will give him a bottle.

With that many, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a postal scale and weighing them at least twice a day for a while. That way you'll know immediately if someone isn't getting enough to eat. If I see one that isn't gaining, I just make sure they get extra time on mama on the best facuets without being pushed off and it will resolve itself, assuming there is no problem with the pup. We've successfully raised 11 three times this way and mama fed them herself until they had teeth, and then I started supplementing with mush. If you have questions, feel free to email drose@desertrosekennel.com

I have a digital scale that weighs in ounces and grams.I have been weighing them in grams since it is easier to see how much they have gained. All put on weight overnight. The littlest 2 less than the others so I am making sure they have alone time with mom. Thanks everyone for all the helps and tips!

I had two small babies in Halo's last litter. They have both turned out to be as big or bigger than the remainder of the litter. They were a good 2 ounces smaller too. Can't wait to see more pictures.

All safe and sound after dew claw removal and tail docking. They all put on weight for the first time in this mornings weigh in. The supplemental feeding must be working!
