Trudy is about 6 1/2 months now and I think she might be in heat for the first time. I've never had a female or a pup before so I'm not really sure. I noticed the other day there was some blood on her blanket in her crate and then this afternoon I notcied some blood on my comforter where she had jumped up. I checked her all over and couldn't find any cuts or anything.
Are there any telltale signs I should look for. Anything I should do for her now that my little girl is becoming an adult? Sit her down and have "the talk"?
I wish I knew this was happening. I wouldn't have let her go to doggie day care at Petsmart when I boarded her for the night on NYE. I'd hate to end up with a litter of chihuauah/GSP mix puupes.
You want to write down the date you first noticed the blood & go back 1 day for when she probably started her heat. A lot of females stay in heat for up to 30 days, so don't let her play with boys at all until the 30 days is up, even if you no longer see blood. Try to check her daily & also write down what day she stops bleeding so you'll have a better idea for next time if you aren't getting her spayed. Most females come in season every 6 months, but can come in at 4 or as late as only once a year. You can buy pull-ups & cut a hole for the tail to stop from having such a mess. It does take talent to get that hole in the right place at first though. Good luck & be careful!
