I just joined this site and have been looking to get back into the dog world for awhile.  I have owned gun dogs all my life and currently have two shorthairs.  I am in the military and have not had time the last couple of years to hunt my dogs or take in others to adopt to good homes.  I am trying to get into both again and any help would be wonderful.

I have a basic issue with doing guided hunts so 95 percent of the preserves in NC are out. Basically any suggestions on where I can get into some heavy covey of quail and\or pheasant would be wonderful.

well i was stationd at camp lejune in jacksonville i use to do some hunting out in richlands it takes a little leg work but if you check with some farmers it use to be real easy to get permision to hunt some feilds i only ever was told no once or twice. also depending on what base your at theres usually a game wardens office on base you use to be able to hunt in certan areas on base but that was all pre 9/11 so im not sure any more but its something you could look into. i did a lot of small game hunting in training areas on base when the wernt being used and i always did real good becuse not many people knew about being able to hunt on base so there wasnt alot of hunting pressure hope some of this helps i was looking for some names and numbers of farmers that let me use there land but havent found them yet if i do ill pass them along.

thanks I appreciate the help. I have hunted the Croatan in the past and did fine with dove, but the quail have seemed near impossible to find. As for on base it has become a production and now requires a rectal microscope to be able to hunt most of the land. However there are some nice food plots that still have some quail. If you could pass the farmers info to me that would be wonderful.
