Mine had gas on it...

Not sure where you are located but if you have a Menards you can get the Diamond Dog Food which I really like for less than Purina Pro Plan....comes in 40 pound bag for about $30 with tax...so it is like $28 something without tax....

Not sure which pro plan formula you're interested in, but in my opnion, all of them contain far to many fillers and not enought meat.

Allot of folks use and like Purina Pro Plan. I think choosing a dog food is very important. I always recommend you take a look at ingredients and depending on what you do with your dog choose a dog food that you think will be good for your dog and one that you can afford. Try it and if is works for you great and if not well there are others to choose from. I actually use a combination of two different dog foods (even different manufacturers). I also supplement my dog food with a skin and coat supplement and recently have been trying kelp to see if it helps with the sun burn on the coat. All of my dogs also get glucosamine supplements for their joints starting when they are young adults. I also add in periodically things like sardines, cottage cheese, molasses, spinach, yogurt, salmon, pumpkin, etc.

My dogs all compete in various performance events and are very active dogs, so I feed a pretty high protein and fat diet.

I have been feeding Pro Plan Performance for about the last 2 years. Prior to that, I had fed Eagle Pack Holistic and then Natural Balance. My reason for switching was two things - both Eagle Pack and Natural Balance became so expensive in my area ($50+ for a 30 lb bag, while my dad was paying $35 for the same thing in CA). I am on a number of dog show lists and several breeders on those lists swear by Pro Plan so I decided to switch. I am paying $39 for a 38 lb bag.

My male has always been a picky eater, and this is the first food that he has eaten as soon as I put it down. Both of my dogs are in excellent condition, have beautiful coats, and are at an excellent weight. On the previous foods, I have had judges tell me my male was too thin (which he was) and at one point, had fed up to 6 cups a day. On the Performance, he is getting 1 3/4 cup twice a day.

While I would like to feed a diet like Taste of the Wild or Evo, I'm in nursing school so money is tight. Like Bev, I also supplement my dogs with things like yogurt, pumpkin, and raw when I can. In the end, I think what food you feed is dependent on how your dog does on the food and whether they like it. For me and my dogs, it works great.

We have used Pro Plan Performance for 7 years, at least, and have fed it from the time we get our dogs as pups. Our dogs look great and we do not supplement with anything else. From what I have read here and on other forums we fed less then others. Also there are NO FILLERS in it!!!!

My dogs have been fed Purina Pro Plan Performance for the past few years with excellent results. We hunt 4-5 days per week September 1 - January 1 and our dogs maintain their wieght and stamina very well. Bev, what glucosamine supplement do you use? My friends vet put his 12 year old springer on glucosamine and now he moves like a dog half his age.

Oneal I use Nutri-Vet Hip and Joint Peanut Butter Wafers. I give them one day at mealtime in the evenings. Belle is my oldest at 6 YO and none have had problems so far, but I decided to start giving them the supplement before problems crop up since they are very active dogs. At the very least the dogs like them and show no ill effects. They aren't horribly expensive either. As my dogs get older I will probably look into a more serious supplement especially if they start showing signs of problems.
