Has anyone tried this on GSP on this site?

Im watching the informercial and Don has a GSP himself and ive seen this dog act on the show... but im curious to know, does it really work?

I google the product and got pros and cons.

but can you really get your dog from wild, crazy to calm in 15 mins?

whats your thought? If I dont find Remington by the end of this year.. the breeder I got Remy from, I'll probably get another GSP.

I tried it. It's basically a plastic prong collar. You correct with the collar that they are supposed to wear non-stop for a few weeks. We didn' t use it that long because the training lines are hard to hold onto. He suggests goves. As with any training it recommends giving the command once and follow through with the leash correction. It doesn't calm them down.

Does it teach them to listen to commands and be more effective than a dog dis obeying your commands? is it that effective?

ive seen the collar they use for this... ive gone to Runnings Farm and Fleet and they have metal ones with 3 inch spikes that are dull ends but i was shocked... so inhumane that someone invented THIS metal collar.

The collar is just a tool. It is only effective if you follow through everytime.

I actually downloaded the videos and watched them because i seen he had a gsp. in 90% of the video he is useing a regular choke chain instead of his command collar. His command collar is basically a plastic prong collar i believe. His training is nothing new..old school choke chain training...tell the dog to do something if he doesnt do it correct him

I bought it to use on my out of control gsp roxy. I really do like his training methods and have seen a lot of improvements. I purchased the set that included the training lines and collar both but I would definitely recommend just getting a metal prong collar instead of the plastic because it didnt seem to get her attention nearly as well as the metal one. I do like the videos though I just wouldn't buy the collar or the lines again

It seems like a joke to me, I haven't tried it, but it just seems like a scam.

I feel that exercise, routine & a leader go a long way. I understand there are times for correction...but to make a dog wear a collar 24/7 until it "gets it" seems ridiculous to me.

There is training and then there are the tools you use in your training. There are also a huge variety of training methodologies. All work if you teach the dog. You can argue about how effective one method or tool is over another and dog trainers have strong opinions about all of the above, but the bottom line is you, the trainer, have to teach the dog in such a way that the dog understands what you want him to do. So, do I think a tool alone will take an over the top GSP and calm it down or teach it to listen to you, no. You must combine the tool with training.

My recommendation is start training obedience (sit, down, stay, come, etc) as soon as you get a pup. That is the time they are like sponges and you can make your world allot easier if you take advantage of that time. Also, find a breeder that actually has a puppy program starting on the day they are born. That sets the foundation for future training. Then read, read, and read a variety of training books and watch videos. Pick a method that you are comfortable with. Devise a plan for training your pup and start training. Do not expect miracles as it takes time to get to a nice recall off leash, heeling, etc. Also, remember training is ongoing and never stops. If your dog is not doing something right, then evaluate what you are doing and change your training accordingly because most often if the dog is not doing what we want it to do it is because he does not understand what we are asking. Dogs are not defiant and they do not do things to spite us. Those are things humans do. Also, do not be afraid to mix methodologies. I do it all the time. Something that works on one dog, may not work on another. That is why you need to educate yourself on a variety of training styles and techniques. Don't be afraid to try different things either. And finally, remember you need to understand how dogs think and what motivates them (check out animal behavior books). Good luck with your training, and I hope you find Remi.

PM me if you want some recommendations on some good training books for obedience, hunting, etc. I will be glad to share the list of books and videos I share with my puppy buyers.
