Hello everyone! So I am in the market for a good E Collar and I was wondering if anyone has seen a good sale going on anywhere? I am focusing on TriTronic brand because I have been told they are the best! Also if anyone has one they have been trying to sell let me know! It has to be waterproof!

Chris good choice with the TT, I have used them in the past and love them. Very reliable and great customer service, I dropped mine into the lake once and TT sent me a brand new unit no questions asked after I told them what happened. As for sales I believe Lion Country Supply and Gun Dog supply both have sales this time of year or you may want to look on some other forum for a used one. I believe there is a couple on Gun Dog Forum. |

| I use the TT too and love it. You might also try Cabelas. You can also sometimes find them on Craig's List or eBay. |

| I picked up a reconditioned one at collarclinic.com. I bought a DT Systems 300 14 years ago and the only thing I've replaced is the collar battery. This year I'm going to finally upgrade to a TT Upland model. Collar Clinic carries the "Big 3" manufactures and sell reconditioned ones. They also carry replacement parts. |

| I've had DT, Innotech, in the past, now I'm sold on the TT, I'm not to sure on the age thing, I used my judgement when I felt it was time, I think he was alittle over 1 year old. |

| The age depends on the dog. For my oldest girl who is very soft I won't use an ecollar. For Halo I waited until she was about 1.5 YO. With Ringo I used the ecollar on him at about 9 mos. You just have to use your judgement, and find someone who uses ecollars to help you. |

Again, I am on the fence with E collars. I find that just way too much handlers and owners don't use them correctly and ruin dogs. You have to do your home work on what to buy and how to use it correctly. Also if you wont test an e collar on yourself why would you use it on your pup. Its a good training tool to reinforce and fix issues but too many times its just used a discipline or out of frustration. anyways JMO. |

What does how other people use the e-collar have to do with how you will use it? It's a great training aid. I'm not one to use it much but for what I use it for it helps a lot. Saves a lot of time, makes corrections timely and gives me the added comfort zone of safety. My husband tried the e-collar on himself just to see. But,honestly, what does that have to do with using it on your dog? Francine |

" Unleashed Technology " makes e-collars with various vibration modes. They have 3 different models. One model offers 15 different "vibration " settings--no shock. The other two units have vibration AND shock. They're made in the USA. No, I'm not a dealer, I just researched e-collars awhile ago and came upon these. BTW, I'm new here, just registered this evening. Great forum! I'm sure that I'll learn alot and hopefully find new ways to help my 8 month old GSP, Mia, expend some energy. She NEVER stops!!! msigk, welcome aboard!!!! Canuck, I use them sparingly, I wear them on my dogs from about 5 mnths on when running/training, start using them (for recall first) around 7 mnths to a year depending on the dog. This is done in the yard on a CC to start. I have used them on myself. The dog sets the level used always starting at a low level. Used on a low level, an e-collar is less of a "jolt" than a jerk on a CC. They are invaluable also for trash breaking, which can save a dogs life. Many will chase a deer or turkey at some point, especially one with high prey drive & you can get an instant correction (this is done at a high level). I would MUCH rather my dog endure a 5 second shock then go missing, get hit by a car........ Used properly, an e-collar is a great training aid allowing instant correction as opposed to having to walk to dog (or catch dog) and correct, helps the 3 second rule. (to correct within 3 seconds of an unwanted behaviour) and many times are actually better than physically correcting a soft dog when used properly!! And I dont mean hitting, simply picking up and putting back or yelling at some soft dogs can get them stressed/flagging more than a low level nick from a collar. Yes, people can abuse them, some will also beat on a dog or whip it with a leash......so the e-collar itself isn't an evil, stupid people are the evil in dog training. |

I have no issue with E collars, i think the are a good training tool if used correctly. Most of the experienced handlers and GSP, DK owners i know use them and they work well. I just hate when i see budy at the lake teaching his dog to retrieve and shocking the hell out of his dog for not doing what he wants..... thats my point.

| I agree 100%, but those same people will usually physically whoop a dog as well. Sad & a shame, but happens........ |
