Patriot is the GSP my wife and I rescued about 3 years ago, we guestimate he was 1 year old at that time.

Recently we've noticed his fur is less thick then we think it should be, and his appetitie isn't all that great (but he's never been a really great eater). He's also started to shake quite a lot, even when sitting in front of the wood stove.

I could see how thin fur would make him cold, but even right in front of the stove where it's plenty warm?  I tried doing a google search but no luck, anyone have any ideas?

thanks

nathan

If it were me I'd take him to the vet and ask for a once-over including a blood panel to make sure his thyroid is OK. I don't think thyroid problems are terribly common in GSPs so it could be something else entirely, but the symptoms would make me wonder.

thank you. he's currently whining at the back door because he wants in. i'm not sure if he's cold or just thinks he's an inside dog now, but it really taxes my wife's nerves when he whines

I second having a thyroid panel run, hair loss & changes in appetite are symptoms of thyroid problems.
Could be developing a food allergy, what are you feeding??? Many food related problems don't surface until 2 to 4 yrs of age in dogs.
Is he a house dog or mostly outdoors?? It's possible if you live in a cold climate & he's mostly outside that he needs a higher fat/calorie food or supplemented.........

The thyroid was the first thing that popped to my mind as well...
