This is a very long shot but I am trying to locate a breeder that uses a green 3 inch tattoo on the inside of the hind leg on their dogs. I recently adopted a 15 month old Gsp out of New Mexico and noticed the tattoo.

Please advise if you know where I can start my search.

Thanks for any help.

What does the tattoo read?

It is a straight green line no letters or numbers.  I have also checked his ears but found nothing.

Thanks again

It may be a tattoo from a laboratory or shelter or other such place indicating the dog's 'status'.

If it is a female GSP it probably only indicates that she has been spayed. I have a terrier mix that has a spay tattoo from a shelter, although it is a circle with a line across it.

Do you have any idea which shelter in NM the dog might have come from? You can always contact the shelter and ask for additional information (owner turn-in, stray, seizure, etc). I don't know of any breeders in the state who use tattoos for permanent id's, most are either microchipped or not id'd at all.

What is that tattoo for? Is it for identification?

German Shorthaired Pointer training is something I need to put in my mind and heart to make it successful.
