This is a very long shot but I am trying to locate a breeder that uses a green 3 inch tattoo on the inside of the hind leg on their dogs. I recently adopted a 15 month old Gsp out of New Mexico and noticed the tattoo. Please advise if you know where I can start my search. Thanks for any help.

It is a straight green line no letters or numbers. I have also checked his ears but found nothing. Thanks again

It may be a tattoo from a laboratory or shelter or other such place indicating the dog's 'status'.

If it is a female GSP it probably only indicates that she has been spayed. I have a terrier mix that has a spay tattoo from a shelter, although it is a circle with a line across it. http://www.sheltervet.org/members/vtfasn/3i/UsingTattoos.pdf

Do you have any idea which shelter in NM the dog might have come from? You can always contact the shelter and ask for additional information (owner turn-in, stray, seizure, etc). I don't know of any breeders in the state who use tattoos for permanent id's, most are either microchipped or not id'd at all. Phyllis and the Singltrak Furtribe www.singltrakshorthairs.net/

What is that tattoo for? Is it for identification?

German Shorthaired Pointer training is something I need to put in my mind and heart to make it successful.
