Let me know if you need to see a photo, but my 4 month old male has a little hernia where the umbilical cord was attached. It's about 1/2 cm wide and high. The vet reckons mum was a little over eager pullinng the cord, and there's nothing wrong with it physically but i was wondering if he would be marked down if i decided to show him and the judge felt it. I'm undecided if i want to or not, but if it would affect him then i'll definitely have him castrated when he's a year or so. Thanks Clare

I have no clue how he would do in Europe, but in the US it is doubtful the judges would even notice it. Very few actually run their hands over the belly. Even if they did there is nothing in our standard that would make this a fault. The judge might ask you about it. That said there would be some judges that probably wouldn't pull him. Just my humble opinion.

An umbilical hernia is easily enough repaired and is not considered a disqualification...the inguinal hernia, otoh are disqualifying. As he grows it will likely become more prominent though certainly not something that is going to result in your dog walking out of the ring. Good luck! Phyllis and the Singltrak furtribe

Thanks for the replies, that's good to know. If i can get him to hold still enough i'll take a photo so you guys in the know can give an honest opinion on whether you think he's got what it takes or not anyway.
