I have a 9 wk old GSP. It has what I would consider to be a very good pedigree and both parents are excellent field dogs.

I have been trying to get this pup to bring me a ball or a toy so I can work on retreiving but he acts like he's not interested. I can throw the ball or toy and he will run to it. Then he will either pick it up and drop it, or look at it and then run back to me without it.

I have tried this in the yard and in his kennel where there are no distractions same results both places. I have done this before with other pups and never encountered this behavior. What should I do?

Thanks.

Be patient. He is only 9 weeks old. Relax and have fun with your puppy. Keep playing and he will eventually bring it back. But most important have fun. They are only puppies for such a short time.

When we first got our pup he had no interest in playing catch or fetch...he would sit and watch our healer fetch (she is obsessed about it!)...but now that he is 4 months old he is doing some fetching!

Luke wasn't interested in fetch when he was that young either. Now he's 8 months and he can't get enough.
