Ringo got his 4th leg today for his JH title.  He had near perfect scores with a 10 in Hunting, 9 in Pointing, bird finding, and trainability for the highest score at the Hunt Test.  The judges said he was a very nice hunting dog.

Brenda -  Fritz would have been proud of his boy.

(And he stacked himself to the picture.)

So he started hunting as soon as I released him. He was staying out in front beautifully and covering the ground as well as any dog I have seen. His first two finds with points were false finds. Birds had been there because I found feathers, but no birds. A short time later he had a real find. The weim he was running with came up and also pointed. Just as I got there two birds flushed. I capped my gun and Ringo gave chase. Thankfully he did not catch the bird and came right back when I called him and went back to hunting. We were about half way through the course when he had his second real find. Again the birds flushed before I got there and this time there were three together. I capped my gun and Ringo held his point and waited for my instructions. I walked him away and back to hunting. He finished the rest of the course with no other finds, but never quit hunting.

So we were supposed to be the second brace and our bracemate was a no show, so we got moved to the last brace and were with a bye dog. It was around 1PM and hot. The wind had also died. The conditions were not as good as they had been early. I wet Ringo down before we started and then we visited the tanks twice while on course. All in all I was very happy with his performance and his finds. It was his best performance in the field so far.

He had the highest score of any of the dogs. He also had more finds than anyone else. Of course he was helped in that there were more birds out there as we went last. Still a good day. The judges really liked him and said he was a very nice hunting dog. I could hear them talking from time to time and overheard them comment on his birdiness. At that point he was on scent, and trying to zero in. His tail was going ninety miles an hour. As soon as he zeroed in he locked up and his tail froze.

So, can you tell I was pround? I wish I had a video as it was a very nice run.

Yes, I can tell you are proud, and rightfully so. To me, to see my dog work the fields is the most uplifting thing to see - even when she overruns birds and won't follow my instructions. To see one's dog perform well, and have it acknowledged by others, must feel really nice.

When you say you walked him away and back to hunting, did you grab his collar?

No, I walked away and called him and he followed and went back to hunting. I don't touch my dog in the field unless we stop for water and I will splash water on him and tell him he is doing good. Otherwise, I just walk and try to keep him in sight. He stayed within a good distance today, but sometimes trees and shrubs got between us making it hard to see him sometimes.
