And the first 100 is the toughest.
Did an out-and-back run just under 9 miles on a logging road today, uphill 1200' and then back down, so it was a pretty tough haul (the cart weighs #140 and I'm not telling how much I weigh!). They did the whole thing in 1:10 which was pretty good for us. I forgot this is the last weekend of elk season so we entertained a few guys dressed in orange running around in trucks.
The hounds are getting strong of course, but for some reason they're especially obnoxious this season. I keep thinking they're getting older, they've run hard, they'll be tired.... um, no. I did a 9.25 mile run on Monday night and after 2 days of rest they just about needed to be scraped off the ceiling. They've also figured out that they're running on days I just feed them Impact and water, because immediately after breakfast this morning they morphed into screeching banshees and the racket just kept getting louder until I loaded them in the truck. Even after our tough run today, when I put them in the yard Rogan was leaping into the air like a flopping salmon over the bag of frozen meat chunks I was getting out while Anya and Dulcie were ripping around chasing the pigeons circling overheard. GOOD GRIEF!
I have to wonder if some of their added energy this year is because we've been feeding Eagle power. I've been very impressed with how much easier it's been to keep weight on them this season, and their coats are looking fantastic. The only other difference is the glucosamine/MSM suppliment I started this summer. ???
