Just got a call from NE.  Abbey ran today at Brached Oak in a very large (four or five point) All Age stake.

In spite of the heat (nineties) and the fact she blew a "heel pad" at twenty minutes, she finished with enough strength and style in 2nd place.

Enough can't be said for hear heart, desire, and determination.  A guy rarely gets lucky enough to breed such a dog and she's a great credit to her daddy "Bullett".

My thanks to my good friend Bryan Long for running her for me, and for judges Peter Wilkin and Ken Levey who gave her a fair look.

If she heals up enough she'll run in the AmAA on Saturday.

Got an update. I am even more proud of her now.

This is the second time unfortunately she's had this type of injury. When she stays at Bryan's place all she ever gets exposed to is smooth concrete and pastures that look like golf courses so her feet get a little soft.

Buddy of mine talked to one of the judges this evening and said she was flat ripping it to have a huge finish but hit a paved road with lots of loose gravel on top just after they released her from her second or third find at just past 20 minutes. There was a car coming and she slammed it to a stop and shredded not one but three of her feet in the process. She still managed to "close the deal" going as hard as she could nearly a half mile to the front at time.

They said the heat and humidity were just brutal and that only she and two others finished well in it.

Maybe they can get her healed up a little, boot her up to her elbows, and get her through the Am AA on Saturday. Last time I did that I was trying to slow her down enough to get her around a big GD course in KS. She still ran a good solid half to full mile beyond the perimiter of the course yet still finished up on time to the front. She handled like a dream, made every turn with us, (three ninety degree turns yet!) and was always to the front. She did it all in full view of myself and the judges and the gallery got quite a show.

It was totally inappropriate for the stake but for anyone who can appreciate an AA age dog it was a thing of Beauty.

She's an amazing animal. We already have her qualified for the Nationals about five different ways so even if she doen't get those last two points (sitting on eight adult points now) this season it's no big deal. She's young and has lots of time. For her, finishing the FC isn't the main goal it's trying to get everything right so we can give her a good chance to show well in Eureka each fall.
