Finally there are some pictures from Maud's recent adventure in Norway. Check for "updates" at our website and click "new pick's from Norway", then Birk, Norway - 07 and Foxy, Norway-07. There is only a capture to the pick's of Foxy and there is a reason to this, as I suspected several weeks ago when I received short text messages from Maud. She never mentioned the other dogs in the messages but only Foxy. The grouse were already white while the ground was black and hence the birds were very nervous and difficult for the dogs. Old Foxy with her vast experience was the only one able to create usable situations and only now and then.

The particular place in Norway Maud goes to, are the hunting grounds of her host Birk' s ( Foxy's son and Briz brother) owner with family. She has been invited to them for a number of years but since the grouse population has been down for as many years Maud has not bothered to pay the high cost for a foreigner to hunt in Norway. The cost per bagged bird would be too high. They have this year, since the grouse population is finally increasing, solved the problem by taking Maud's camera and giving her their gun at suitable moments. There is more than one way to skin a cat or to fool a legislation!

Anyway, since the population of grouse has improved so much this year it is not out of question that next autumn will be a really good grouse year and if so Maud is prepared to pay the cost for hunting in Norway.

The Norwegians are somewhat funny people. If somebody wants to hunt on their land he or she really have to pay an arm and a leg to get permission to do so, but when the Norwegians come to Sweden they most often just cross the border, pay nothing but poach and clean the mountains of any birds and then withdraw back home and sell most of their birds to restaurants and such places. Norwegians are very fit, they have the best of dogs and they know how to shoot so they can clean a place in no time at all. This is not slander from my part but a well-known fact!

However, I know the style since it is about the same we have on my native island, the Aland islands. People living close to nature often only learn to collect for themselves. They do not know what the words "giving" or "sharing" means :-))) Or "you got to get the getting while the getting is good".

On the other hand, if I do not have to make business with the Norwegians, I like them very much! They are never boring, they are never bewildered but always have a solution to any problem they might encounter. They lack almost everything of the decadence that can be found in big cities and further south in Europe and they can drive the Greenpeace into insanity!

Very interesting reading about the Norwegians:-)

Fantastic photos of Foxy working, she doesn’t look anywhere near her age.  What a good life she is living.

Hello Maud,

I am very sorry to read that Torsti is in hospital.  Yes, the sedimentation rate (ESR) is high and can be indicative of many things.  It may well be due to chronic infection from the pneumonia he has had recently.

Yes, “sound as a bell” is a good way of saying you hope he will be very well again.  I wish him the very best and for you as well, as it is worrying being the one at home.

Do let us know how he is getting on.

Thinking of you.

Sonia

Torsti is still att the hospital and will be there untill the sedimentation rate is getting lover. They give him penicillin intravenous. The dentist found a lot of pus under a tooth today... many things to fight for the moment, but he use to be unyielding so I hope he soon is getting better.
