Looking at the "vacuum" thread made me wonder--do any of your GSP's have what seems to be an inexplicable fear of anything in particular?   When I adopted Chelsea at age 9 months, she would not cross those big metal utility-access plates in sidewalks.  Would not.  Nowadays (8 years on) she will sometimes stutter-step across them or suddenly swerve as if she's thinking "Oh, I'm supposed to be scared of that."  I thought at first she just didn't like the slicker texture but her reaction was so adamant that it had to be fear.

Any other "scary stuff?"

That's why I make my pups walk over and sit on those plates, actually, on anything odd-textured, right from the start. Chelsea was likely never exposed to them.

My previous dog had slight issues with fire hydrants at night, but overcame those.

Most of my dogs are white. Most of them will therefore back white signs when they encounter them in the field HA!

There's a reason I like dogs better'n people... .

Osiris hates the fireplace. I think it comes from one night when we had to use the fire extingusher on it. There was a huge downdraft and smoke was filling the house. Hubby had to put it out. It scared the shat out of Osiris, and now every time we light up the fireplace, he hides.

He also cowers at the sight of any gun.  My litte cousin got out a toy rifle one time and didn't even point it at Osiris or shoot it, and when Osiris saw it, he sank down, tail between his legs and scooted away.  Same thing when he sees my Hubby's paintball guns. (He is a rescue dog, so who knows what happened before we had him.)

And he HATES fireworks.

Thankfully Leena hasnt shown any phobias of anything (yet) She was nervous with loud noises when I first got her, but she's pretty good now. Like Tessa said, I try and expose her to as many things (in a positive light) as possible so she doesnt develop fears.

My girls don't particularly like thunder and lightening, but beyond that no phobias.  The girls are also ok with other loud noises, it just seems to be the storms.  My boy on the other hand thinks storms are great fun, you know water from the ski and mud.  He also would have gone out in a hail storm the other day.  The hail was the size of tennis balls and he really did think God was throwing balls for him.  It was hilarious him sitting on the sofa looking out the window and just miserable because all those "balls" were outside and he was inside.

My mom's cocker is afraid of anyone wearing black.  She backs away and barks.

Baron is terrified of hats. As soon as I put a hat or hood on, he freaks out, barking at me and won't come near me. I know he was abused when he was a baby so I'm assuming the guy that did it wore a hat. It's sad but I don't know what to do about it!

Buddy doesn't like anyone talking loudly or when were in the field hollering for there dogs, after enough of it he comes to my side and looks at whoever is being loud and just watches them? He eventually vetures back out on his own with some coaxing, he is getting better with it as he is maturing. Buddy is being trained with a whistle, hand signals, and a collar so I understand his confusion. I was really worried when we started his AKC events and who we would be partnered with.

Our 7 month old is terrified of a stuffed toy monkey.. It is so bad that if I want him to stay in one room I don't need a baby gate.. All we have to do is put the money in the door way and he will not come out!!!!! We don't do it for more than a min or so.. It's so funny I feel bad for him ..

Nothing happened to him. My son brought it downstairs to get rid of it and had it sitting on the coffee table, Sticky ran and hid under my desk and would not come out until we moved it.. So far it is the only thing he is scared of. I think we can say he is just a strange puppy.

OK, not sure if this is a phobia or not....but I have a dog with an odd...."habit"??
Let me start by saying I have a son and 5 nephews & boys will be boys. They tend to have some rather, odd, well actually gross bodily function contests if you get my drift.(they are older now & don't do this as much, thank goodness!!! BTW, they didn't do this in public, only family members were so"privileged")
Anyway, one evening I hear them laughing uncontrollably & go to investigate. My female Moon is in the room with them, her eyes about bugging out of her head, I instantly think they are teasing her, well they really weren't. Seems the boys were "out of ammo" so one does the blow-on-the-arm thing to make that certain sound to show me what all the laughter was & Moon instantly whirls around sniffing her own butt!! Have to admit, I LMAO!!! To this day, if you blow on your arm when she walks in a room, she reacts the same way & then looks at you & "Woo-woos" at you like "Stop that!!!"
I swear I am going to video it sometime, funny as heck!!!! Any similar sounding noise gets the same reaction, I have shown this to several people & now they ALL do it to her anytime they see her. She almost has a panicked look...like "How'd I do that, what the hecks wrong with me?!?!"

Wachter's issues are stairs and new public buildings.

Which is going to be REALLY fun in the new house since we will have a basement.

My GSP/lab mix is scared of rain. She will go running full speed towards a creek, loves to run in th snow, and loves baths. But if she has to go outside and go potty when it's raining she shutters and looks at me like she might actually die if I make her go outside.
