My pup sure does sleep alot.  She will go through spurts throughout the day where she wants to play for about 20min and then it is back to her bed to sleep.  Is she lazy or is this normal?

Michigan is around 3-4 years old and as of late she doesn't want to get out of bed in the morning. It may be a hangover from the winter months when she was happy to go out, pee and then go back inside but I'm told some shorthairs are just lazy.  I think I've got one of the lazy ones sometimes.

From what I know puppies can't keep the pace up for too long before they want to rest.

Your puppy is a baby and needs allot of sleep.  Puppies tend to sleep, eat, pee and poop, play, and maybe not in that order. The sleeping and playing cycles are pretty normal.

It is not uncommon for puppies to play hard and sleep hard.. They will often have spurts of energy, and then fall asleep in their tracks..

Thanks y'all.  She really turned it on this evening right before dark.  She hasn't wanted to go to the fields in about a week (she doesn't like rain or wet ground), but she tore it up this evening.  There had been some turkeys in the fields earlier today and she went crazy when she got their scent.  From that point till' dark, it was off to the races.  She was looking for birds everywhere.  Too bad we don't have any wild birds or she would have found them.  Oh, and she's only 9 1/2 weeks old.

rapid fire, your pup doesn't like the rain or wet ground, because she is 9.5 wks of age. At this age her body is unable to regulate her body temp, if the temp becomes too cool or too warm.. her body can't maintain it's body temp. When she is around 6mnts of age she will be better able to adapt to temp changes, until then you will have to make sure that her exposure to too cool or too warm temps are avoided..
By the way some GSP's never really like the rain, unless of course they are hunting, and then they are so focus on the hunt their adrenaline keeps them from noticing the rain..

That's a puppy for you, that young they do sleep a lot. My oldest one used to fall so sound asleep as a baby, I would carry him outside when I went to work in the garden so he wouldn't wake up in the house w/o me seeing & pee in the house....he wouldn't even wake up when I carried him out!! My fiance insisted something was wrong with him, LOL!!
He turned into a dog that could hunt all day.(and there were days I missed that sleepy puppy when he was a "teen")

Our twelve weeks old sleep a lot (probably about 65% of the 24 hour day). But that 35% that they are up... whew they go go go. That is normal. They sleep harder if we have even spent an hour in the field with wings... I wouldn't worry. like pixie bee said enjoy it while it lasts. lol
