I was wondering if any one else's GSP's are good mousers? I have had Mocha for 5 years and she has caught more mice outside than any cat I know. She just kills them. Also moles, gophers, and Garter snakes. I have watched her hunting them in the field, dig them out of a couple feet of snow. She will dig the snakes right out of the ground. She doesn't try to eat them, she just prances around for a few minutes with the "prey" in her mouth showing it off. I am just amazed at how good she is with it. Her and Hunter dug about 2 feet down in my field this year and up she came with a Gopher.  Just wondering if it's just mine or is this something they all do?

If squirrels aren't available Molly is more than happy to get on the trail of a mouse. We have a lot of ground cover and when she finds a mouse her tail is going like crazy.

Squirrels, chipmunks, mice, moles and bunny rabbits :( and some birds, too (and the tailfeather from a wild turkey he ALMOST caught) Daniel has brought them all home to show me. :)

Of course, this is the time of year when the squirrels & mice come in through the various holes they find & take up residence in my walls. Daniel is mostly used to it by now, so he only gets excited when they make noise, but it is driving Layla crazy, which is driving ME crazy! :D

Yeah, we've had mice and I think 3 gophers from the back yard dispatched. Rogan actually caught a packrat one night while running lead on the cart without a neckline to keep him tied next to Dulcie.

Rocky is a great backyard mouser. The first winter we had him I saw adead mice in our back yard thinking it was our neighbors cat when then one day I saw Rocky in action and realized yes GSP's can be rodent killers.... Our son Dennis also told me hesaw Rocky clamp down on baby possum that was under our deck!!!

What are cats for again? Ha Ha. I think that is so cool that they can mouse. I am really suprised at how far away they can smell them, even under 2 feet of snow. The squirrels in the apple trees are driving them crazy right now. They did get ahold of some baby doves on the ground this year. That was a bummer.

Lady is a killer on pocket gophers and other creepy crawlies. This fall she was collecting salamanders and letting them dry for a few days then prancing around with salamnder jerky sticking out of her mouth, ewwwwwww. I was so grossed out, I thought at first it was poop of some sort (ie cat which is gros enough) but it had legs, I just about hurled, she stopped when she puked one particularly yucky one back up. In case you were wondering I was throwing them out when I found them but she had a stash of them.

Winston and Diamond were great at catching mice, voles, and other members of the rodent family. Diamond would just give them a good shake, but Winston would sometimes actually crunch them down. Once Winston got a mouse and gave it a toss and the thing went flying 25ft up and landed about 50ft away from him *laughs*

My girls bring me mice, rats, opossums, squirrels, and my oldest catches doves.  The doves she brings me are usually alive too.  The rest of the critters aren't.  I am just glad they haven't come across a skunk yet.
