In my opinion of observation of growth and development of dogs, it takes 2 years for a dog to fully develope. Up the the first year they grow to their full height and length. After that , the dog continues developes muscle, tendon. organ growth and maturity. Alot depends on amount of food and exercise your dog will have in your life style. More food and less exercise will result in a heavier GSP. Less food and more exercise wil result in a thinner GSP. Kennel Crated GSP verses a GSP who lives free in house with doggy accesss to a fenced back yard running with other GSPs will make a difference for weight and size. Yes there are growth charts for female and male. You can look at the GSP female and male charts to say a female should be 55 to 65 lbs. But life style of your dog will play a better rule at forcasting what size and weight she will be. Take this advice from a person who GSP, Rocky last fall tipped the scale at 93 lbs and now thur low fat diet and more exercie is down to 79.3 lbs last vet check.

There are two formulas:

1. [weight at 4 months] x 2 + 10 = adult weight.

2. [weight at 6 months] = 75 % of adult weight.

These are formulas to estimate the potential size/weight, as used by shelters and rescue organizations. As Marie said, it depends on many other factors, not the least genetics. A pup should be close in size to its parents, but there are variations. Whether or not the pup was spayed/neutered may also have some effect on how it grows.

Length and height will stop at 1 year or so.

Tessa is 7.5 months now and weighs 42 lbs. She has only gained 2 lbs in the last 6 weeks, so considerably slowed down. I doubt though that she is "done" Her adult weight was estimated to be at the top range for a female, 55-60 lbs, by the breeder, but again, those are just estimates.

All that said, it amazes me how big these dogs seem even at 40 lbs.

Those formulas are going to be close for Ringo.  His sire is 65 lbs and right now Ringo is on track to be exactly the same size (height and weight) as Fritz, his sire.

So, for the formulas:

At 4 mos Ringo weighed about 27 lbs.

27 X 2 +10 = 64

At 6 mos Ringo weighed about 51 lbs

51 X .25 + 50 = 62.75
